Semiconductor Packaging (Electronic Components) Industry: Challenges in the Functional Film Coating Process
We wanted to apply protective ink evenly to the surface layer of functional film, but we encountered the following problems.
・Tension, distortion, and twisting during application of the film can easily cause unevenness in the coating.
・The coating thickness becomes uneven due to misalignment of the workpiece (substrate) height.
・There are layout restrictions as we want to reuse existing equipment for the drying oven used after coating.
Examples and Uses
① Eliminate uneven coating by tension control
・Reel-to-reel structure is used to maintain constant tension on the film
Tension control prevents stretching and misalignment, achieving uniform application without unevenness.
② Step correction using a servo motor
・Detects deviation in workpiece height and corrects it in real time using servo control
By always maintaining a constant distance, variations in coating thickness are prevented.
3) Cost reduction through design compatible with existing drying ovens
・The drying oven is designed flexibly so that existing equipment can be used as is.
No need for new installation, avoiding large capital investment
* New drying ovens can be installed as needed.
